Well, the answer depends. The point is that you can add distinctive characteristics to your character, such as scars, a spot of a different color, a special item, a piece of clothing and so on, but it must not be anything too spectacular. A Pikachu wearing a mystic armor that gives it magic abilities will most likely get your registration rejected. On the other hand, if you want your character to be a Pikachu with an ear bitten off, a piece of cloth worn as a scarf, and being in possession of a Light Ball, then that could be accepted if the backstory behind those is good enough.
