Aaron was surprised, both at the late arrival of a new trainer and at the boy's demeanor, but he smiled invitingly anyway. You got all kinds of kids coming here, and it was his job to courteously help all of them. Besides, only time would tell if they'd be the same after their journey as when they started.

"Good evening, Damien. If you've already made your decision, then feel free to chose your pokemon. They're all right here," Aaron said, indicating the several groups of pokeballs on the table. "Then go ahead and let your new pokemon out so you can meet it."

"Very well," he stated, reaching out and grabbing a Pokeball with a fire emblem on it. "Xoskillitn, come out." he said, throwing the ball into the air. The tiny red pokemon skittered around on the floor for a couple seconds before Damien called it back. He then shoved the Pokeball into Aaron's hands. "Scan it." he said calmly, but still in the egotistical tone he'd been using for their entire encounter.

"Alright," Aaron said as he took the pokeball, being careful to remain polite. "The scanner is over this way." He led Damien over to a scanner off to one side and placed Xoskillitn's pokeball in a slot in the machine. After a brief humming sound, some information appeared on the screen:

Scratches the foe with sharp claws.
Leer [Nrm]
Frightens the foe with a leer to lower defense.

Aaron picked up the pokeball and handed it back to Damien. "There's one more thing to take care of befor you go. If you could just follow me..." He led Damien through a door at the back of the lab, which led to a grass-floored room with an open ceiling. White flowers marked the lines of a pokemon battlefield. "It's time for your first Gym battle! Are you ready?"

"Xosillitn, come out." Damien said, throwing the pokeball into the air and watching his new pokemon appear in a flash of red light. The scorpion skittered around the floor with excitement, and Damien called it over. "You ready?" he asked. They Pokemon gave what could be considered a nod. "Well then, get out there and show me what you can do." he said. Xoskillitn scuttled out onto the field, waiting for Aaron to release his Pokemon.

Aaron tossed out his own pokeball, which opened to reveal a small, dark-colored bird. "Nevermore!" It squawked as it fluttered it's wings.

"Nevermore, start with a Growl," Aaron called. Nevermore spread it's wings intimidatingly before growling loudly at it's opponent.

Xoskillitn braced for impact, and then recovered in time to hear Damien yell. "C'mon, let's end this! Use Leer, then follow it up with Scratch while its busy!" he called. Xoskillitn turned on Nevermore, its eyes yellow as it glared at Nevermore, then began charging at it with its claws in attack position.

Nevermore was momentarily intimidated by Xoskillitn's sharp look and didn't recover quick enough to doge the attack. When it was slashed at once more, it reeled back for a moment before it fainted.

Aaron returned his pokemon. "Good job, Nevermore. Next up, Lediba!" He tossed out his second pokemon, who materialized flying just above the battlefield. "Lediba, Tackle," called Aaron, and his pokemon dove down to deliver the attack.

The Scratch made Lediba loose its balance, and it had to land quickly before it crashed, When it turned to face its opponent, it looked straight into the Leer and shrunk back a bit.

"Growl at it," said Aaron.

Lediba was quite happy to stay out of range of those claws, and Growled loudly at Xoskillitn.

Lediba caught several scratches from Xoskillitn. It stumbled a bit before falling over and laying still.

Aaron recalled his pokemon and walked toward Damien, smiling. "Congratulations, that was very well fought. You've earned this." He pulled a badge out of his pocket and handed it to Damien.

Damien has recieved the Panorama Badge!

"I also have this for you," he said, holding out a PFL pokedex. "I wish you luck on your journey."

"Thank you, Aaron." Damien said flashing him a smile (Y'know, a genuine smile that actually means that person is happy.) and walked out into the starry night. He started out from Anchore Town, taking note of where he turned, in case he had to get back in a rush. As he made his way down Route A (hey, that rhymed!), he heard a Rustling in a thicket of tall grass off to the left. He jumped as a Nevermore jumped out and sqwaked at him.

Ready? 3... 2... 1... GO!

"Xoskillitn, use Leer! Damien commanded. Xoskillitn turned to face the small blackbird and its eyes turned yellow as Nevermore's defenses began to lower. The bird shrugged it off and used a Growl attack, making a cute but annoying chirp. Damien smiled, and looked Xoskillitn in the eyes. He snapped his fingers twice, and Xoskillitn took the cue, charging at the bird and slashing at it using Scratch. The bird stumbled back a bit, then shook itself. "Now's much chance." Damien said, taking out a pokeball from his pack. "Gotcha!" he yelled, throwing the pokeball. It wobbled bit, the button on it flashing red for a bit before dimming back to the normal grey. Picking it up, he smiled slightly. "Mine now."
