Ste looked around the lab for any signs of life. Machinery was all around him, buttons blinking and screens shining softly. Pokeballs were strewn about--possibly the result of a Pokemon's disastrous tantrum. Ste picked one up and looked at it.
"Maybe this might be the monster I get," Ste said to himself, looking at the ball from every angle. He then, in a fit of inspiration, tossed the Pokeball to the ground, releasing...

(OOC: I guess this is where Ste meets his Pokemon, I don't know.)

"Wh-what the?" Ste said, squatting down to meet it at eye level.

"Kip!" said the Mudkip, a friendly tone in its voice. Playfully, it spit some water into Ste's face.

"AAGH!" Ste yelped as he shot up. He took off his glasses to clean them up, and when he put them back on, he looked back at the monster on the ground. "You know, you're a mean little bugger." The Mudkip bounced happily and spit water at Ste again. "HEY!"

"Kip! Mudkip!" Ste glared at the Mudkip.

"You know, I think the name Squirt's gonna be good for you, you little jerk," Ste said, angrily.

(OOC: Nah, Ste just doesn't like being squirted in the face. He'll warm up to Squirt.)

"Well, I guess you can be my starter, eh, Squirt?" Ste said, lowering his arm toward Squirt. Squirt jumped on his arm and perched there.

"Kip!" said Squirt, happily.

Ste then left the lab, desperate to find some other Pokemon. He grabbed some empty Pokeballs from a nearby desk and set off, at the same time wondering how he'll explain this whole thing to the Professor.

Looking in the grass outside the lab, Ste spotted a flock of Pidgey, pecking at bugs here and there. However, none of them interested him; Ste himself was more into Ground and Rock types. He stepped into the grass, looking for more Pokemon when from under his feet he felt a small rumble. Just then, a Diglett, of all things, popped out from underneath him!

"Squirt! Would you look at that?" said Ste, looking at the small brown creature. Squirt squeaked in response, squirting a bit of water at the Diglett.

"Digidig!" the Diglett squeaked, retreating back into its hole.

"What the- come on!" Ste said, grunting. He turned his head to face Squirt. "Now, listen. I want you to spit some water down that hole, 'kay? I'm guessing that will drive him out."

"Mudkip!" said Squirt, hopping off of Ste's arm and peering down the hole. Suddenly, the Diglett from before popped up right in front of Squirt, spooking him and making him jump backwards.

"Come on, Squirt! Get him!" said Ste. "Use Tackle on it!"

"KIP!" Squirt yelled as he rushed at the Diglett. The hit connected, knocking the Diglett back in its hole. The Diglett popped back up, this time from underneath Squirt, tossing him up in the air and onto the ground. As Squirt got up, the Diglett Scratched Squirt, knocking him back.

"Squirt, don't take that crap from him!" Ste said. "Now finish him off with another Tackle!" Squirt complied, Tackling the Diglett once more, weakening him sufficiently. "Alright! Now it's all down to this!" With those words, Ste tossed a Pokeball, capturing Diglett inside.
