"Wow, what a beautiful day, eh, Heracross?" said Kai to his Pokemon. Kai and his Heracross were sitting in their backyard, looking at the sky. Across the horizon, several Spearow were flying, making a haunting cackling noise as they went. Heracross squeaked in delight as he saw the sun setting.
"I can tell you enjoy it," said Kai. He petted his Heracross on the head as the Heracross cooed back. Suddenly, someone came towards Kai.
"Kai, don't you think you should be going?" said his mother.
"Oh, yeah, I forgot," said Kai, getting up. "Shouldn't I go see Professor Aaron for my Pokedex?"
"That would be a good idea, yes," said Kai's mother, handing Kai a small device.
"Is that--"
"Yes, it's some PokeGear, so whenever you want to call home, you can always find time!"
"...Thanks, Mom," said Kai as he called Heracross. Heracross squeaked in joy as he hopped on Kai's back--he was used to it. "Well, I gotta go!"
"Bye, sweetie!" said Kai's mother, nearly in tears.
"Jeez," Kai said under his breath.
"Hello? Professor Aaron?" Kai yelled. "I'm here for the Pokedex!" The lab seemed silent, and the lights were dimmed. Heracross hopped off of Kai's back and looked around.
