Eric noticed Chipen getting burned again, and this time even worse than before. His pokémon received damage and Eric doubted how long its would last against this opponent.
"Chipen, retaliate while Branthorn is still near. Use Quick Attack!" Trying to ignore its burns, Chipen immediately leapt again at Branthorn at top-speed.

Being an agile pokémon, Chipen managed to dodge quite a lot of the incoming Sharpthorns. However, it took yet again damage from its severe burns, and coupled with some of the thorns that did it, it collapsed to the ground, all but fainted.
Eric called his pokémon back. 'That is one strong pokémon I'm up against,' he was thinking. Eric decided to try and weaken his opponent more before using Comolten again.
"Go Mankey!" Eric tossed the pig monkey pokémon's pokéball to the battlefield, and it agressively appeared. Eric decided to use some more strategy this time around.
"Mankey, Focus Energy!" Angrily, Eric's pokémon eyed its opponent, and it started focusing, pumping up its anger.

Instead of thinking, however, Mankey only got more angry because of the incoming sharp leaves. Eric was hoping that Mankey stood firm and that it would focus its anger on its opponent, and not on its trainer. Now that the razor-sharp leaves had hit, Branthorn was quite near.
Eric noticed that the Focus Energy had worked. "Mankey, use Karate Chop!"

Mankey stood firm as Branthorn hit it with its burning attack. Mankey had obviously been burned badly, but Eric's pokémon was determined to fight on.
"Mankey, use Low Kick!" Upon Eric's command, Mankey ran towards Branthorn, stretched out its leg, and performed a kick low to the ground.

Since Mankey was still very close to Branthorn, it got hit hard by many of the incoming Sharpthorns. It let out an angry cry once its burn dealt some damage too. Eric noticed that Mankey was getting steamed up, but even more so than it normally would. Eric had trained with Mankey alot before this gym battle, and he knew what this meant. Branthorn's Sharpthorns had resulted in a critical hit, and Mankey's Anger Point ability had been triggered.
"Mankey, use another Karate Chop!" Eric instructed with confidence.

"Mankey, watch out!" Eric yelled. Yet, still under the influence of its ability, the hot-headed Mankey was too angry to dodge any of the incoming thorns. Instead, it tried to punch them in order to destroy them. Without any protection on its pawns, however, this proved impossible and Mankey got hit by the larger part of the volley of thorns. Its burn once again hurt it too.
"Mankey, try to get near and Scratch Branthorn," Eric instructed, hoping to still profit from Mankey's ability.

But the combination of Mankey's increasing amount of damage and its anger had a different effect on Eric's pokémon than during its training. Mankey now turned towards its trainer, angry because Eric let it receive this much damage. Mankey jumped on Eric's back and Scratched him on his head. "Ouch! Mankey, quit it!" Eric yelled, while running in circles. Calleo raised an eyebrow at this unusual scene in his gym.

After a few circles, Eric tripped over the vegetation on the gym's floor, and crash-landed on his back. Mankey ended up below, and appeared quite dizzy from their collapse. Eric decided to call it back, while he had the chance. In a flash, the angry pig monkey pokémon was returned to its pokéball.
Eric walked back to where he stood during the battle, and straigthened his hair. He scraped his throat and let out Comolten. Eric's starter appeared in a firey and shiny fashion, while calling out its name. This time, Eric would not have to worry about Branthorn's burn-inflicting attacks.
"Comolten, use Quick Attack!"

Eric admired the badge he had just received. It was truly colorful, and it was shaped in a cool way, much differently from the Trail Badge. The battle had gone pretty smoothly, Eric was thinking. 'Maybe I should have used Comolten earlier against Branthorn,' he thought, 'but hey, every one of my pokémon could use the experience.'
"Yeah, Mankey and I have some issues. We have always had, but things are improving. In the past, he would have started with attacking me, instead of doing so near the end of the battle," Eric answered Calleo.
Together they walked over to the room where Calleo grew his berries. Eric was astonished by the sight of that many berries. He hadn't known there were so many of them. "Thanks for the offer! I'd gladly take some berries from you," Eric said with a smile. After some explanation by Calleo about their effects, Eric decided to take a Passho berry for Comolten to protect it from super-effective Water-type attacks, and a Liechi berry for Mankey, hoping it would become more friendly towards him as a result. He also took two Lum berries.

"Thanks again, Calleo. Even if horrifying, I enjoyed our adventure together to help protect your city," Eric said. "I will search for Aero now and tell him you're ready." As Eric took off, Calleo took care of the battlefield.

Eric walked to the room where he had last seen Aero sleeping. "Aero, are you here? If you're ready, it's your turn now to battle Calleo."

Eric raised an eyebrow. It had surprised him that someone was able to take a nap while using Blastoise's shell as some sort of cushion. "You're quite a sleepy one, aren't you?" Eric joked around. "But yes, Shira and I have managed to win our gym badges here!" Proudly, Eric showed Aero his badge. "I heared Calleo speaking of using different pokémon for you. Has he mentioned anything about that to you?" Eric asked.

"I'll sure come and watch!" Eric replied enthusiastically. He stopped to think. "Right, I'll head to the Pokémon Center first to heal my pokémon. I'll be back soon to watch!" With that Eric took off.

As Aero reached the battlefield, Calleo was indeed waiting for him. The gym's arena was all clean and tidied once more.
"All right, are ready Aero?" the gym leader asked, upon which Aero simply nodded. "Great. I have some special pokémon for you in store. Gym battles are no fun if there's no challenge involved, after all," Calleo said with a smile. He was excited about this fight, as it had been a while since a more experienced trainer had visited the Bastion Gym.

Calleo grabbed his first pokémon and threw it to the grass. In a flash a huge pokémon appeared... "Snoooowww! Abomasnow!"
Calleo's Abomasnow took a step forward and raised his arms. A hailstorm immediately started raging on the battlefield.
