Kapacorn's vines reached out for Meowth, who tried to jump and dodge around them, with little success.

"Meowth, use Cut to stop the vines," Shira called. It seemed liek the best strategy, but she hoped it wouldn't hurt Kapacorn too much.

Meowth slashed about with his sharp claws, trying to attack the vines.

Meowth had found he deffinitely did not like getting wet, and he scrabbled to dodge the stream of water. It missed hitting him head-on, but it still splashed down his side and legs. He hissed angrily at Kapacorn.

Seeing Meowth's reaction, Shira decided to use it encourage him, in a way. "You're not going to let it get away with that, are you? Hit back with Bite!"

Meowth eagerly dashed at Kapacorn and pounced for it, ready to sink his fangs into his opponent.

Meowth was too close to dodge the attack and yowled as the thorns scratched him. He jumped back and hissed, but Shira could see he was getting tired.

"Another Screech, Meowth," she called.

Meowth took another step back before giving out another ear-splitting shriek.

Meowth lashed out with his claws as the leaves approached and managed to deflect some of the, but he was still scratched and jabbed by the razor-edged foliage.

Shira could see there wasn't much fight left in him, but she couldn't withdraw him yet because the last pokemon she would be using in this fight would need all the help he could get. "Meowth, Cut it down!" she said.

Meowth bounded forward and pounced at Branthorn, claws first.

Branthorn plowed into Meowth, who yowled with pain from both the impact and the sting of his burn. He stumbled back and glared defantly at his leafy foe, but his legs trembled from the strain of staying upright. Then he shuddered once more as the burn throbbed with pain, and finally collapsed.

Shira held out Meowth's pokeball calling, "You did great, you've earned a rest." As he returned to her pokeball, she briefly contemplated her remaining pokemon. All she had left was Sparret, her weakest and most inexperienced pokemon, and Gyarados, who was probably still half-wild and unlikely to listen to her. She knew it was no good to call on Gyarados, so she had to hope Sparret would be up to the task.

She replaced Meowth's pokeball on her belt and picked up Sparret's. "Your turn, Sparret!" she called as she tossed it on the field. As the small orange-and-brown ferret appeared on the field, she was suddenly grateful that he was a pure Fighting type instead of part Ground, like his evolutions. "Start with a Sand Attack," she called, knowing strategy would be needed in this battle.

"Rrrret!" growled Sparret eagerly as he began to kick up a cloud of sandy dirt in Branthorn's direction.

The Sand Attack seemed to have thrown off Branthorn's aim, since the sharp leaves were scattered more widely than usual and Sparret was able to evade the worst of them leaving him with only small scratches.

Shira was glad her pokemon was off to a good start. "Nice job, Sparret! Now, Double Kick!" she called.

The little ferret bounded forward eagerly to deliver the attack.

"Dodge with Quick Attack!" Shira yelled immediately. Sparret would need to dodge as much as possible to get through this battle, and with the two combatants so close together this was the only thing she could think of that might help her pokemon evade the spray of thorns.

Luckily it worked pretty well. Sparret shot off to one side when the worst of the attack was still reaching him. He still got pricked a bit, but not as badly as he otherwise would have. He continued to move quickly from the attack, and curved around Branthorn, planning to strike at its back.

Sparret wasn't quick enough to dodge this time, and could only crouch low against the ground as the sharp leaves sliced into him. That meant his legs and belly were unhurt, but his head, back and sides bore several deep scratches.

"Double Kick again, then jump back!" Shira commanded figuring that putting some distance between the two would make it easier for Sparret to dodge.

Her pokemon leaped forward to strike at Branthorn, then would take a couple hops away from his foe.

Sparret tired to hop around to avoid the wisps of flame, but the small, bright flares nevertheless tagged him on his side. Instantly the spot where he'd been hit became singed, and Sparret winced at the painful burn.

Shira bit her lip, worried. She really needed to pick up some healing items after this. But since she had none (not that she could really afford the time it'd take to use one), she just had to try to end this battle as quick as possible. "Sparret, Quick Attack!" she called.

The little pokemon dashed forward, trying to ignore the persistant sting of the burn.
