I'm...not really sure what everyone's seeing in this site. Most of the new types are bad, the pokmon I looked at all seemed unoriginal, needlessly overpowered and/or based on flimsy concepts, the names and dex entries are uninspired, and while the idea of the combo attacks is an excellent one that I've pondered myself on occasion, the execution of it is distressing.

Needlessly overpowered? How can you say that a pokemon is overpowered when there are no stats and no learnset to look at? "It looks tough"? Gimme a break.

There are good ideas on this site, and that's what counts. Stop focusing on the bad aspects. Every pokemon creation project has some lame pokemon, that doesn't mean the entire thing is lame (well I guess that the sand type is kind of unforgivable but whatever)

By the way, I've always wondered why virtually all pokemon creation projects are so underdeveloped. I mean, where are the stats? Where are the learnsets? What's the point of making a pokemon and stopping half through the process? Imagine what kind of super pokemon metagame could exist if everyone designed their fake pokemon for actual battling instead of just posting pictures and vague descriptions

Actually, the Pokdex data usually indicates it. For example, the PSN/DRK Deagol apparently "proves a tough fight even for a Tyranitar". Do you have any idea how powerful a PSN/DRK-type would have to be to give the RCK/DRK Tyranitar pause?

Yes, I have an idea. Basically, it just has to be faster, have decent defense, and know a fighting attack. Good game, Tyranitar. For example, the following stats could be suited to Deagul:

HP: 80, ATK: 110, DEF: 90, SPEED: 80, SA: 60, SD: 60

Arguably, it could have a kicking fighting move such as, for example, hi-jump-kick. Not that I'd give him that, but it's an example. And then you have the following scenario (can't believe I wasted my time to battle myself, but I guess I care):

Note that Tyranitar had maxed defense, and that Nidoking had maxed attack and minimal defenses. Not only did it give Tyranitar trouble, but it even won. And Nidoking isn't overpowered.

Besides:

"REGICE cloaks itself with frigid air of negative 328 degrees F. Things will freeze solid just by going near this POKMON. Its icy body is so cold, it will not melt even if it is immersed in magma."

Well regice still falls to cross chop without freezing the chopper, as it should according to this description, and it is still weak to fire attacks.

This quote single-handedly shows why pokedex entries are not to be taken seriously in regard to balance.

Also, a bad habit that's easy to fall into is giving too many pokmon superlative abilities. Neuto apparently has so many pokmon vying for the 'fastest in world' title that it's a wonder trainers manage to capture anything.

You are exaggerating. Upon reading random descriptions, I failed to see that many superlative abilities.

I do feel that their implementation is a little rough, though.

What implementation are you talking about exactly?

Some of the pokmon here at the Pokmon Factory have movesets.

Unless I missed something, these movesets lack TM compatibility and egg moves.

Not everyone is clever enough to come up with good movesets, though; I know a few people who can choose good moves but stink at selecting levels at which to learn them.

I was referring to actual battling. I didn't define levels for my own fake pokemon, because they are unneeded. Eventually, if I make a (MMO)RPG out of it, it's a matter of seconds to define them.

Meh, I guess I'm a little hypocritical about that. I would probably not define learnsets and such if I hadn't that much free time and the immediate possibility to incorporate them in a working battle engine (the battle demonstation I showed was taken from the "386-legal" version of the engine (which I didn't make, I only correct bugs), but I have one specifically modified (by myself) to accomodate fake pokemon, moves, attacks, etc. On a side note, battles on this are really fun, and much more creative than usual pokemon battles).

And it's even more difficult to make stats that are diversified without being unbalanced.

Keep the total between 450 and 525, be careful not to exceed 120 or 130 for any offensive stats, and it's most likely going to be balanced. Of course it also depends on the trait/types/learnset.

Folks at PF are known for slamming on Nintendo's pokmon ideas, but to Nintendo's credit, they know how to balance an RPG.

Single-player-RPG-wise, probably. The battle system isn't as balanced as it could, though. There are many pokemon (lol luvdisc, lol beautifly) that are unuseable in serious battling, and others (hi metagross, hi salamence, hi regice, hi gyarados) that are just awfully overused. An ideally balanced system would address these issues by providing specific uses to each pokemon.

Bottom line: Coming up with new species is mostly a creative endeavor. Coming up with stats more specific than "above average" is less creative than it is scientific. They're different fields.

I guess you're right, but it's still neat to combine both aspects.
