I think I must be one of the biggest detractors of this type. I dont like the idea of a Sound-type to the point that I had never given any serious consideration to it. However, seeing the page that you provided inspired me to think about it more thoroughly. And heres an essay about it.

First of all, I must say that I disagree with most of the data provided, principally this:

In the same sense that sound is intangible, Fighting attacks would never be able to hit Sound types.

Here, he/she compares the Sound-types to the intangible Ghost-types. Ghost-types are intangible in the sense that they are made from gaseous substances, like in Ghastlys family, or perhaps ectoplasm in some cases, which in parapsychology is a form of solid energy (that is, considering it really existed, something I doubt, but that could exist in an imaginary world like pokmons).
Now, we obviously have pokmon made of matter, and some of them made of energy*. But a pokmon made entirely of sound? Sound is not a substance like gas, its not even energy: its just a wave; a traveling vibration of the matter and not matter itself. How could sound organize into a living being?
Too abstract a concept, even for pokmon, I say. I just cant imagine a pokmon made of sound alone. Therefore, not only do I think that Sound wouldnt be an intangible type, but that it couldnt be a stand-alone type at all. In my opinion, it would be a 2nd-type only just like the Flying-type (Id be willing to accept Sound/Flying, though). Anyway, the Jigglypuff and Whismur families would become Normal/Sound. Aruseus would be a problem because it should be able to be pure Sound-type with a corresponding plate, but Ill just let it be. I dont want to get into detail about it for the time being.

With all that said, its time to go into type relations. Lets start with offensive. The Sound-type as declared in the website is offensively null against Psychic-types. I would make it the other way round: super effective. I dont know about you, but if I were meditating peacefully and someone crawled near and shouted at my ear, I would probably smash my head with the ceiling. Also, a noisy ambience its not a good place to concentrate.
For similar reasons, I would make it super effective against Magic-types.
Id also make it super-effective against ice, by drawing a parallelism with glass, but that could be discussable.

Sound-types against Sound-types. How would it work? The Soundproof ability could imply that they should be immune, but then that ability would become redundant in pokmon gone Sound-type, like Jigglypuff. We could either remove that ability in those cases, or letting the Sound-type be simply resistant against its own attacks, not immune. Id choose the latter.
Now we have three strengths and only one weakness. Lets balance it out. The best candidates are Rock and Steel-types, which are resistant to sound-based attacks already, since most of them are Normal-type as of now. Let it be that way, then.
Lets add Ground too, now that I think of it. Shouldnt be able to make much damage to those.
Defense-wise. Weve got Sound already. Lets add to its resistances. Mmhhh Light. Yeah. You dont need your eyes to make sound, so blinding wouldnt be much of a problem. On the other hand, Ice-type moves would be a problem indeed. You cant shout if youve got a sore throat. Or if you are interrupted by sneezing. Therefore, weakness to Ice-types. What an ironic twist of fate, since I made Sound attacks powerful against them. OK, serves them right . Ground, Rock and Steel combine with the offensive weaknesses. Good. However, Ill remove one of them to make the type less weak... I think Steel would be better.

Now lets recap. My Sound-type goes as follows:
Offensive strengths: Psychic, Magic, Ice
Offensive Weaknesses: Sound, Ground, Rock, Steel
Defensive strengths: Sound, Light
Defensive Weaknesses: Ice, Ground, Rock
A bit weak, but considering that it would always be paired with another type, except for Aruseus, some of the weaknesses should be balanced. Cant say the same for Normal/Sound, though well, in any case Normal-types have many varied resources to fight against their weaknesses.

Well, that was my insight into the mysteries of the speculative Sound-type. I hope you liked it. I must say that I gained much more respect for the idea, though I still havent changed my mind. In any case, thinking all of this sure was fun!


* Lets always bear in mind that energy and matter are the same phenomena. E=mc. Energy can be turned into matter and vice versa.

I'm not saying that my logic is undeniable, and you have very good points there indeed. Believe me, it's not that I enjoy contradicting people for whatever reason, it's just that I can't resist to analyze things that I find interesting. And since I find your comments very interesting, I feel tempted to try to 'show the flaws', as you put it. But I'll leave that for later, since I have to think it thoroughly. It took me almost two hours to write my previous post...
By the way, if someone wants to find flaws in my theory in the meantime, I encourage you to do so. I don't consider it to be perfect.

Good points, Ninjamatt. Water conducts sound better than air, too. However, as very few water pokmon are actually made of water, I dont think it should be an offensive strength.
Lets see the type relations would end up as follows:

Offensive strengths: Psychic, Magic, Ice
Offensive Weaknesses: Sound, Wind, Rock, Steel
Defensive strengths: Sound, Light, Psychic
Defensive Weaknesses: Ice, Rock, Steel

Wow, its much more balanced.

As for Anthonys comments. Darkness is not made of matter indeed. However, dark pokmon command shadows rather than being shadows themselves, since Dark-types are not intangible. The same goes for Psychic-types, who command the psychic waves but are not made of them. Thus, Sound-types should not be intangible as they would only command sound. However, based in that concept it may work as a stand-alone type after all.
Anyway, I like the idea of a type exclusive for moves, or perhaps a new move category along with D/Ps Physical, Special and Other.
