What was the purpose of making a wind type if there is already a flying type?

Because it's different. The element of wind and the ability to fly are two different things. Birds fly, but they aren't the embodiment of wind, and they have no power over wind. Thus, the wind element.

What was the point of making a Ground-type when there was already a Rock-type? What was the point of making a Fighting-type when there was already a Normal-type? What was the point of making a Dark-type when there was already a Ghost-type? What was the point of making an Ice-type when there was already a Water-type?

What I want to know is how these new types are going to fair with the D/P split. Just from looking at the list it seems that most Light attack will be specail and all wind attacks will also be specail.

Oddly enough most magic attacks are physical. Obiously we will need to come up with some new attacks so bleh. I guess we should start thinking.
