I figured Id put this poll up to see what starter youre going to get for Diamond and/or Pearl--or which starter you like the most, if youre not going to get either game. Its not like PF is bustling with activity right now anyway. ^^;;

Im personally starting out with Pocchama. Ive used the Water starter since the days of Red and Blue, and I really like Empeturos design. Naetoru is close second, though, and the three starters are looking great this generation.

I would get Pocchama, since I liek it best out of the base forms of the starters, but a friend and I already decided we will each get different versions of the game (one will get Diamond and the other will get Pearl) and we'll trade pokemon amongst eachother to fill the pokedex. She wants to start with Pocchama, so I'll start with Naetoru because I think it's final evolution is really cool. Neither of us particularly like the monkeys, so we'll work something out with that later.

Well, I've decided that I'm going to buy a Nintendo DS no matter the cost, so I'm going to buy these games as well. Both of them, Pearl first and then Diamond. My first choice will be Naetoru. In Diamond, it will be Hikozaru. I like Pocchama as well, but not its evolutions...
As for the rest of my team, in Pearl it will definitely include Biidaru and Toridepusu. In Diamond, Sukatanku will be a must. I'll worry about the rest later.

Pochama in one, Naetoru in another.

And there are so many interesting new Pokemon I'd like to have on my team. Right now, I'm digging that Dragon/Ground final evolution, Kaburaisu. Land shark speed demons. Kirlia's other evolution is great. Dootakun seems extremely interesting. And PorygonZ and Megayanma are musts.

I'm trying to like Magmar's evolution, since Magmar has been a team staple of mine since Blue....but it's not clicking. It just looks really silly.

Personally, I dont like any of the starters much, so when I get this (and a DS) I'll go rent a fire red from Blockbuster, and trade it for a charmander, If theres something that prevents you from doing that, Like how you had to get the ruby and sapphire in FR/LG before you could trade from R/S/E, then Id get Naetoru. *turtle turtle*

Naetoru. For two reasons.

1) Every game I own, I never even GET the grass starter.
2) Naetoru's third evo is unbelievably kick-ass.

I'd definitely pick Naetoru as well. Not only do I always pick the Grass-type starter, but Naetoru is the best Grass starter since Bulbasaur in my opinion. And, indeed, its final evo is kick-ass.
Depending on when it's possible to trade in the game, though, it would even be better to have all three starters early on.

Blinx- it looks like you have to at least defeat the E4 before being able to get Pokemon not native to Shinou.

I know. I cant wait to get Lucario, Masukippa (Venus Cracktrap), Greggoru (Poison/Fighting Toad), Mikaruge (New Ghost/Dark), Yukimenoko (Female Snorunt Evo), Fuwaraido (Ghost Balloon), and many many others.

Oh, and Moustachepass. I shall name it Groucho, and it shall be my Groucho.

Naetoru for me, although it's close between that and Pocchama. For several reasons. First of all, a tree growing on a turtle's back? Cool. Second, I think the fire one is just stupid (Seriousy. ANOTHER Fire/Fighting starter? What!? And a monkey? What do monkeys have to do with fire?). And third, the ground component of Naetoru's final form will mean that I'll have a counter to electric types by level 32, and won't have to take up a slot on my team with a ground type.

So what if monkeys don't have anything to do with fire? Pokmon can always use more such creativity.
I'm actually going to start with Naetoru, but it has nothing to do with their appearance or the way they evolve. It's just that I want relatively easy Gym battles for my first playthrough, and the first Gym is Rock (eliminating the Fire-type) and the second Gym is Grass (eliminating the Water-type).

Actually, it's even worse than that. Reportedly, the only way to get 3rd-gen pokmon into Diamond/Pearl is to transfer them, six at a time, from the GBA cart into the DS cart. There is no trading going on; the pokmon you transfer appear in a small park and you have to catch them again, though fortunately they give you balls for this purpose that are essentially Master Balls.
Actual trading is impossible...and that means the pokmon you transfer can never return to the 3rd-gen game.

Yeah, I was VERY peeved to hear that you can't trade them back. But what choice do we have if we want that Pokmon on there? Oh well.

I'm going with the Fire type just because I always do... other starter types never really appeal to me. Sure, it means hard gym battles, but there's usually pokémon you can catch early to combat this, or just extra training (Red and FR, I train my starter up to a much higher level than most before attempting Brock).
And if my previous record is anything to go by (having the final stage of the starter before the gym it's good against), I'll have the final evo pretty soon.

But there isn't a way for the DS to connect to the GBA to perform a real trade, right? The DS can't connect to the GBA in any way, can it? Not wirelessly, or through the link cable.

Not that I know of, but still, they could have set something up where you could have Pearl in the DS slot and Emerald in the GBA slot of a single DS and then perform a real trade between them.

I expect trade between two DSs just uses the wireless function, so nothing else would be needed.

I don't care for being able to trade back my pokemon. I most likely won't be playing the old games much anyways as sad as it is to leave the third generation I'm ready to jump into the fourth one without looking back pretty much. I didn't like the third one much anyways.

As for my starter I'm going for either the penguin or turtle, the monkey is going to be taken by my younger brother and I want a different one than his. They all look cool in there own way but the turtle is the coolest looking one in my opinion, but eventually I'll try them all.
