Scientists have discovered that Quarrex's face, along with its crown, together resemble a 'crest'. The gems that are present on this crest differ depending on the location of where Quarrex is found. Thus, they now speak of different clans of Geodude, Graveler and Golem in Bombur when there's a Quarrex around.
