But... why? I thought that the reason they gain a hatred is thorough the teachings of their parents.

*AHEM* I think I can tell that story very well... Queue the flashback!

One day, a Zangoose and a Seviper were on an adventure to find a hidden treasure that an old Carnivine told them about. The treasure was supposedly hidden in a cliff-side cave. So they went to find it, using a vine to rappel down the rock face to the cave. But then, Zangoose's vine began to break. Seviper got to the cave, and tried to help, but he was too late, and the Zangoose fell to his death. Seviper mourned the loss, but went on to find the treasure in the name of his dear friend. When he returned, however, without Zangoose, the tribe that Zangoose had belonged to thought that Seviper had killed Zangoose out of greed.

And that's why I'm not allowed to watch Wizard of Oz anymore... Uh, I mean, that's how the Seviper-Zangoose Feud started... yeah, that's what I meant.

Random Virrgoose and Slitherbie Info:

Pokémon observers have studied hard to find the reason for the change from friendly to hostile behaviour towards each other when Virrgoose and Slitherbie evolve. Those pokémon observers with the most expertise at using stealth tactics have used all of their skills in order to get closer to Zangoose and Seviper. They discovered that, as soon as a Virrgoose or a Slitherbie evolves, its evolution is celebrated during a meeting with all other Zangoose or Seviper of its group. During this meeting, the newly evolved pokémon (which is now mature enough to know) is informed of the reasons for why they should dislike the pokémon they have a feud with so much. The reasons for this feud are still shrouded in mystery, though, as the observers never got close enough to be able to hear what those reasons are...

Ahh. Now that makes more sense. So if you caught these 2 baby pokemon and they never knew about the past, they can still be friends. I might do that in the trainer rpg with sov.

@JDLJDL: No, the observers cannot understand pokémon. But their experience as observers provides them with different ways to 'understand' them. Those ways are of course way harder, which is one of the reasons they haven't understood the feud's background.

@soble: Indeed, you're right ^-^

One more note, we have to keep in mind that no one is sure the reasons for the feud are legitimate. Since it isn't specified in the games, and as far as I know it isn't in the anime either, the feud's background might very well be founded on a misunderstanding of some sorts.

When not playing with Slitherbie, Virrgoose love to spar with each other. They playfully fight with their claws, thereby training their arm muscles and their sharp nails. These fighting skills are necessary for when they end up being attacked. They also train to build up strength for once they evolve. While Virrgoose are still young, however, they have one more secret weapon. This 'weapon' is a pair of incredibly innocent and cute eyes. Whenever a Virrgoose ends up in trouble, it will stare at its foe. As a result, the opponent will hesitate long enough for Virrgoose to attack with its claws before making a run for it. Just ask a pokémon observers to show some scars...

While Slitherbie are still young, however, they have an additional way to protect themselves. This, namely, is the 'helmet' on their heads, which is nearly as tough as steel. Whenever they are under attack, they can deflect incoming moves with their heads, or just ram into their foes headlong.
The Slitherbie also like to play soldier. Using their tails, they will throw with pebbles at each other, pretending them to be granates. They love it when the pebbles hit their helmets. Pokémon observers are less fond of the game and count the lumps on their heads...

Odd. They spar with their own and are friends with one another as children, and they're friends with their own and spar with one another as adults. There are a lot of ways to explain this, but The Little Prince puts it best:
