While outward appearances may deceive, Larvluff is actually the larval form of one of Argeon's rarer Bug-type families. The larval form of Gossamoth, its final evolution, Larvluff has puzzled many Pokemon scientists and common-folk for years--specifically due to its rather unorthodox look. Before recently, people assumed that the hairs on Larvluff's head and tail were poisonous, and folklore attributes virulent outbreaks of terrifyingly itchy rashes to their supposedly venomous fur.

All this was proven false one day, when a field researcher noticed that, when its territory was invaded by Zigzagoon, that the Zigzagoon was averse to eating the Larvluff due to their similar coloration. The Zigzagoon instead opted to seek out another Bug-type Pokemon--Argeon's own Pippillar, who are much more vivid in color. It has now been theorized that Larvluff have evolved this similar brown-and-tan color scheme to survive in the wild. (Even their rarer phenotypes are similar to the orange colors exhibited rarely by Zigzagoon.)

Before evolution, Larvluff are ravenous in their diets. Larvluff have been known to hollow out Apricorns in search of nutritious, fibrous food to help in spinning their woolly cocoons. Oftentimes, a group of Larvluff close to evolution can completely strip a berry plant of its leaves and fruit when other roughage is unavailable. As a food source, however, Larvluff are involved in the diets of several bird Pokemon, such as Taillow and Hoothoot, among others. Sometimes, Hoothoot will probe Larvluff nests and pick out sleeping Pokemon. Due to this, many Larvluff will keep guard while others sleep.
