They can't produce light, only scent. They can't learn tail glow, or flash.

While a good point, Illumise's strong connection to light patterns and the light Volbeat produces suffices to defend its Light-type status. This is the same reason we made Sunflora part Light-type.

Bellossom's connection to the sun is less strong than that of Sunflora. Summoning the sun by dancing (which is what Bellossom does) is something quite different from being completely dependent on the sun for energy and nutrition, to the point that you even try to pursue the sun (which is what Sunflora does).

Well I think that Bellossom should be part Light type. It evolved by the Sun Stone, something only it (and Sunflora) can say. That, and I believe Bellossom is commonly used for the Sunny Combo: It can learn Sunny Day, Solarbeam, and Synthesis, and has Chlorophyll. Seems pretty sunny to me.

ABout Illumise... It attracts swarms of Volbeat with its light, doesn't it? That makes it a Light type, plus Volbeat deserves to be one, and they're counterparts.

@Flarsable: the moves a pokémon learns should never be a reason by itself to give it a different type. Groudon isn't part Light-type either. Also, in Bellossom's case, the Sun Stone just purified it from its Poison-type, while the Sun Stone increased everything sunny about Sunkern.

Regardless, the points above stand as they are.

Out of personal curiosity, can Illumise produce lights with the yellow things on her chest?

True, but what about male Illumise?
I think that's just a collar to make Illumise look nice, so it can't glow.

There's a special name for male Illumise, JDL.

We call them "Volbeat".

Volbeat and Illumise are just like Tauros and Miltank, or the two genders of Nidoran. They're a single species whose two genders are so different in appearance and abilities that they are classified as different pokémon.

No reason not to, I mean Scyther and Pinsir are still counterparts even though Scyther got an evo and Pinsir didn't.

Just so you guys know, Illumise can learn Moonlight, Sunny Day, Light Screen, Solarbeam and Flash.
Apart from that, the connection it has to the light that Volbeat create, and its ability to create difficult light patterns by using Volbeat's light is enough to defend its Light-type status.

A lot of pokemon can learn sunny day\flash that have no connectuon to the sun\light like: skitty,nidoarn,yanmega,hypno,weezing,etc...

BTW if there were smell type Illumise should've been bug:smell
