For so long, our home had been peaceful. There were those of us who had chosen to focus on enhancing out minds and the powers that came with them, and then there were those who had chosen to focus on enhancing our bodies and the brute strength it offered. While there were often disagreements, for the most part things were good. Life began to advance, and the machines left behind by humans were slowly becoming less mysterious and more fearsome. Machines of war, of terror... of death.
Years passed, and tension grew between the physical buffs, who had taken to calling themselves the Regalia, due to their arrogance and their pride. The magic users, tough, had taken a more humble name. They called themselves the Magicites. The growing conflict was due to warring positions on the fates of the more dangerous machines. The Regalia wished to use them for defensive purposes. Most also wanted to use them to conquer neighbors of theirs who would be weaker then them, should they get ahold of the machines they desired. The Magicites wished to destroy them, so as to promote peace amongst all. The debate raged for many years.
Finally, the Regalia had had enough of waiting and debating. Using all their current stock of the deadly machines, they made a march on the capital settlement of the Magicites. Their leader at the time, an Alakazam by the name of Yuve, had discovered how to bind souls to stone to increase the power of Summon. Together, many of them bound their spirits to the very earth, and Yuve preformed a great summon. Those who did not wish to be sacrificed had fled, going deep into the forests. The great summon decimated the deserted settlement, as well as the immediate area. The Regalia scouts saw this and reported back. The army turned back and abandoned their machines of war.
We called it Sin. For eons, it ravaged our land. After it was first called, it wreaked much havock. Eventually, a young Lopunny by the name of Lunesca came forth, proposing a solution: that more Pokemon be bound into stone so as to offer their power to fledgling Magicians, who would make a journey to the ruins of Maracitia, the capital of the Old Magicites. Many liked this idea, and as Lunesca was the daughter of Yuve, she had knowledge of the Forbidden Binding. Every large grouping of Pokemon had a statue erected in a sacred place, and a willing participant was bound to it. This was the birth of the art of summoning.
Of course, there were many who resisted. They were hunted down, and became known as Gem Holders, due to their habit of binding themselves to the rare gems they held. This enraged the followers of the 'teachings' of Yuve. This meant that they couldn't be used to enhance summoning powers. Most gems were smashed, but a select few were saved, either by hidden agents inside the bounty hunter platoons, or by family and friends as a memorial to the lost one. And so, in time, many died combating the Sins of their time, for indeed, it always came back after being given time regenerate. However, for some inexplicable reason, it always appeared in a different guise.
And soon, many forgot the tales of old of a world where all had lived in harmony and used machines to benefit the good of all. For now, most machines are banned, and the people live in a stasis of growth. None can advance to far, lest the be targeted by Sin. And so the perpetual cycle of stunted growth and death goes on. This was our world. Little did we know that soon, so very much would happen, it would rock the foundations of the very fabrics of time and space.
