Anything to make this thread worth not-closing?(Getting a MLP point through may be a valid and relevant issue, but ask yourselves this: Do people really wanna find this when they click on this topic? There are better places for this debate to take place)

First off: Your first paragraph started with this sentence: "Do you have proof that the majority of people with disabilities/eye problems are hurt by this?" And your second paragraph: "I understand the majority hurting the few." These two are mutually exclusive. Now then, some reading material: A longer piece by someone who teaches young, disabled children. A shorter piece specifically about the derp meme. With the help of RGCockatrices, let's break things down. It doesn't matter if someone uses derp without intending to be offensive; it doesn't matter if the root of the word is malicious, or the common usage. What matters is that it has bad effects on people that could easily be avoided. That's it. It doesn't matter that, with intent taken into account, the hurt could be irrational. The hurt is still there. Some people not being affected does not erase the experience of those who were. However, derp is primarily an internet meme. Not a lot of 6-year-olds are on the internet, so the impact of the derp meme would be limited on them until they got older. Then, this stopped being the case when this major kids tv show named a character Derpy, teaching them that calling people who look funny "derpy" is ok. The character was renamed from Ditzy Doo to Derpy as a "tip of the hat" to fans-with-internet, that is, bronies. Going further than the normal fan, bronies decided a character was called derpy and reiterated it so relentlessly, that the show's makers noticed and referenced it. When the character was to be changed back and the show recut, as mentioned in that article, bronies decided that their meme and in-joke was more important than, going backwards up my points, teaching 6-year-olds that it's ok to call disabled people derpy. And so started the "save derpy" movement. The thought process being something like this: I, a brony, am a proponent of love and tolerance as espoused in MLP:FIM. Therefore, anyone who says I'm not tolerant, is lying. They're being offended over nothing, because if this was something to legitimately be offended over, I wouldn't be doing it. And that, along with quetionable fan art, is why I don't like bronies. And now, I shall flounce from this thread.
