Alright, so I'm seriously mad about this.

Okay, so yeah, 3000 in the grand scheme of things isn't a lot, especially not compared to Hiroshima. This does not change that it was a tragedy. This does not change that it was a heartrending affair for billions of people around the world. I will not comment on the "war on terror," because guess what? That's not what this topic is about. This topic isn't about arguing about why 9/11 happened, why it wasn't important, about religion, it's not about anything. That's not why we remember this day.

We remember this day to honor those who died in an act of senseless violence, and to remember why this attack was a terrible thing. There is a spin on it that makes it about fear, but choose your own path for this day. Honor those who died. Feel for the pain their families went through. Remember this attack not as a symbol of the violence in the world, but as a symbol of why this violence needs to end.

The fact that some of the people in this topic would dishonor the memory of the pain that so many suffered, not just from their deaths or injuries, but because of the pain caused by loss of family, of friends, and of the shock that came with this event - for shock is one of the things that differentiates this event - well, the blatant disregard for the solemnity afforded by this event disgusts me. This is one of the only times I have been disgusted by this forum.

Even if you don't agree with what is being said in this topic, do not start an argument. This topic is - was - for respect to the losses and pain suffered, and a reminder for why peace is something we need to work towards. Merely by bringing antagonism into this topic, by deliberately starting an argument, which was done from the very beginning, you disrespect those who died and those who wish to merely remember.

It saddens me to see that we as a community cannot pay our respects to a tragic event without devolving into flaming and arguing. If you wish to respond to what points I put forward, ever so briefly and inadequately due to my rage, I'll be in irc for a proper, respectful discussion.
