FA Starters (not archived yet):

Reason for the new format: First off, to save imageshack's bandwidth so they don't start dropping my images. Secondly, this is neat, and since I'm planning to do these on a regular basis, since everyone seems to like it, it keeps the post smaller than full size images. I'm currently working on TENTACUTE, NEVERMORE and LENOIR. They'll be up soon. On the other hand, INSOMITE, RAMFRIO and PRAS are now up. Enjoy and comment, comments let me know what to improve on, what I did wrong and that you all are still interested.

The others are nice too, I like hopw you did the flames/smoke on Comolten.

... Wow, I'm glad it's such a hit. ^-^'''' I'm glad. Okay, I'm using my boss' computer at work again, so I can't really say as much as I'd like, however, I'll try to leave a good response to your comments... In order in which they were posted, of course.

@ ShinE and Blueeyess: Sukus is my favourite starter (As we remember from the RPG) and this work has been something I've been trying to get started for a little over 6 months, so I've been working on Sukus' pose all this time, and I finally got it the way I wanted it. The hard part though, is the fact that Sukus doesn't exactly have much of an anatomy, thus making it MORE complicated to appear realistic. In the old GSC-styled sprites, the images I was given were 2D-unmuscled and lacking bone structure - which is simply because of the quality standard of the time. However, because of this, it proved difficult to create images that seemed to be living and breathing counterparts to their originals. Hence, in the end, I had to take liberty and assume and guess at certain attributes of each. Comolten in particular is hard to see in it's sprite, thus, I gave it more depth and volume and added fire and a smokey trail. Sukus, on the other-hand, was very... "statue-like", thus, to make it appear "alive", I had the Sukus in my drawing leap, thus giving a much more "living" attribute to it.

@ Sovereign: Why thank you very much, sadly, you appear to be the only one who favoured Youthistle, but I'm happy you liked it. It's supposed to emulate "cuteness". ^^

So it appears just about every one of my drawings were appreciated by someone, and the two staff members loved Sukus, which is great and makes me quite glad. I'm, again, extremely happy and grateful for the comments. I decided I'm gonna try to get some more up this afternoon. The next ones'll probably be FA001 Holliguana, FA006 Xoskilltn, and FA009 Ninemone

Whoa! Those are awesome once more! And this time, they're all that good that I don't even have a favorite. Xoskillitn might be the highlight here, because its sprite is indeed somewhat hard to make out. Great job once again!

Well, let me tell you that you've got some pretty neat stuff there, with plenty of personality. My advice for you is to work on the outlines a bit, and make them smoother. By the way, I get the impression that you're using pencil lines, am I correct? Perhaps it could be better for you to ink them, whether with an appropiate pen before scanning them or digitally, if you have access to a tablet. That way the lines would stand out more, and the overall look of the pictures would be greatly improved.

Thanks for the flurry of comments. And I don't really have time today to answer you all (there's an obon festival today) so I'll focus on Antarctros' one. Reason being is that he's been a PF concept artist since I've been here. (4 long years, XD).

@ Antarctros: I do use pencil and I know about the edge quality. I've tried to bypass that by recolouring light spots or resaving the image to grayscale or black and white. The problem is mostly that I'm unsure what ink medium to use before I scan. If you have a suggestion that'd be great. Now, on the topic of the notepad; I'm assuming you mean a Wacom computer pad, yes? As much as I'd love to have that piece of hardware, my part-time job won't cover it, and my parents don't exactly encourage my artistic interests (my dad wants me to join the army, for God's sake), so yeah, a Wacom would indeed be helpful but unless you have a suggestion where to buy a cheap but working one, I'm sunk there.
